Understanding PCR, TBR, And OTR Tyres

Understanding PCR, TBR, and OTR Tyres?

In the tyre industry, the abbreviations PCR, TBR, and OTR are commonly used. While industry professionals are well-acquainted with these terms, newcomers may find them unclear. At Magna Tyres, the focus is primarily on TBR and OTR products, as PCR refers specifically to Passenger Car Radial tyres.

PCR Tyres

PCR refers to tyres designed for passenger vehicles. These are the typical car tyres, not suitable for trucks or heavy equipment. The term PLT (Passenger and Light Truck) tyres is also used, covering both passenger and light commercial vehicles. However, PLT tyres differ from TBR tyres in structure. PLT tyres use a semi-steel construction, enhancing ride comfort. They come in sizes like 185/65R14 or 215/60R16, which are not produced by Magna Tyres due to the company's specialization in larger models.

TBR Tyres

TBR stands for Truck, Bus, and Radial tyres. These are typically used on commercial transport vehicles such as lorries and buses. Due to their all-steel structure, TBR tyres are known for their durability and high load capacity. Magna Tyres manufactures TBR models in various sizes, such as 13R22.5, 12.00R20, and 325/95R24, particularly tailored for off-road truck applications. Their deep, wide tread is designed to extend the lifespan of the tyre under tough working conditions.

OTR Tyres

OTR, meaning Off-The-Road tyres, are built for heavy-duty vehicles like loaders and dump trucks, primarily used in mining, construction, and port operations. OTR tyres are engineered for performance in extreme environments. Common sizes include 16.00R25, 20.5R25, and 29.5R25. These tyres are characterized by deep treads and heat-resistant compounds, ensuring reliability in demanding off-road settings.
